Supporting the care of gardens, native forests, fern gullies and the natural habitat at Emerald Lake Park
COME AND JOIN US VOLUNTEERING AT EMERALD LAKE PARK
Friends of Emerald Lake Park (FELP) began in 2000 and volunteers work to support Park Services and the Natural Reserves Team of Cardinia Shire Council, in the care of the gardens and bushland surrounding the lakes.
Members participate in three flexible working bees each month.
Our Activities
-
Gardens
Activities include weeding, pruning, mulching and planting in the garden beds around the picnic areas to support Park Services of Cardinia Shire Council.
-
Leaf Hoppers
Leaves are raked and gathered in autumn and stored in wire leaf hoppers. Decomposition occurs and the resulting soil is then returned to enrich garden beds.
-
Bushland
The Emerald Lake Vegetation Management Project began in 2010 with the aim to remove invasive weed species. Revegetation, with indigenous plants, would restore the habitat for native birds and animals and the aesthetic values for the community to enjoy. This project is continuing.
